Nineteen (19) students have successfully completed the 2010 outcome-based training programme under the auspices of Adcock Ingram’s OTC Academy of Learning. The students will receive their certificates and commendations at an awards ceremony at MonteCasino in Johannesburg on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.

Dr Jonathan Louw, Chief Executive Officer of Adcock Ingram, congratulated all participants and said the company was committed to the empowerment of pharmacists and their assistants. “Sharing information about pharmaceutical products and their use is very important to us. We recognise and value the significance of strengthening our partnership with pharmacists and their assistants. These professionals provide an essential ‘umbilical cord’ role linking us as a manufacturer of medicines to patients”, Dr Louw said.

Through the OTC Academy of Learning, Adcock Ingram reaches out to the pharmaceutical community to impart knowledge, share information and consult with pharmacists on new innovations in the market, product information and other value add initiatives designed to enhance service provision to customers. Adcock Ingram’s OTC Academy of Learning offers free-of-charge education covering basic anatomy and physiology, how to recognise particular diseases, and the type of OTC products that can be recommended for a particular condition. Two additional modules will be added covering HIV and Aids, dermatology and skin conditions, sexual health and gynaecological conditions, mental health, cardiovascular health, pain and ocular diseases.



“More than 12 000 professionals have benefitted from the OTC Academy of Learning since its inception four years ago. To date, training sessions have covered a wide range of medical matters including colds and flu, analgesics, allergy and ophthalmology, diet and energy, optimising customer potential and merchandising and marketing the pharmacy”, Dr Louw concluded.
